It Began With Birds

The Audubon Movement started in the late 1800’s and was named after the famous artist and ornithologist, John James Audubon.  Today, however there is tremendous need to go beyond the birds.  While birds are certainly bellwethers of the environment, to globally expanding population and the resulting pressures on natural resources, means that along with bird conservation, we all must become aware of and engaged in sustainability that starts with the belief that it is economic viability that will allow us to address the environmental and social issues of the day.

Audubon Lifestyles is a non-profit organization based in the Principles for Sustainability, believing that the most natural way to foster sustainability is by working to balance the triple bottom line of people, profit, and planet. Operating with the main purpose of benefiting society, Audubon Lifestyles delivers sustainable programming, services and certifications that are cost effective and reduce risk. More importantly Audubon Lifestyles is a champion for promoting actions taken by people where they live, work and play that demonstrates that making a profit, while benefiting society and the environment is what is required for a more sustainable society and planet.  We advocate this by working with governmental agencies, universities, businesses of all sorts, other not-for-profit organizations and people from all walks of life.

While we believe that there is no single path toward sustainability and that each person, each business, each community must create their own path towards a sustainable future, we simply caudubon_network_for_sustainability_isc_logo_-_middle.jpgannot deliver on our complex mission of promoting sustainability without our members.

That is why we need you to become a member of the Audubon Network for Sustainability! While it began with birds and we are proud of that heritage, today the Audubon Movement has become a network of people, businesses, governments and universities all banded together with a committed focus on the Principles of Sustainability.  We hope that you too are committed to sustainability and that you will join the Network today!
